How to repair gear and weapons in Expedition: Into Darkness

Community sources describe the same basic repair flow: choose a kit that matches the item or component type, unequip the item or remove the weapon component into your stash, then drag the repair kit onto it. A kit may fail when the type does not match or the item is above that kit's repair threshold. We have not gameplay-tested this flow.

Why will my repair kit not work?

Choose what you see. This narrows the documented checks without guessing your item, save or Demo version.

Move the item into your stash before dragging the repair kit onto it. For a weapon, open Configure and remove the part you want to repair first.

Boundary: This is a community-documented Demo procedure. Use the current interface prompt if it differs.

How do players report repairing an item?

  1. Identify the material or component type you need to repair; community sources distinguish cloth, leather, armour and blade tools.
  2. Unequip the item into the stash. For a weapon, a Steam player reports opening Configure and removing the specific component first.
  3. Drag the matching repair kit onto the unequipped item or component.
  4. Treat a failed attempt as a type, threshold or setup question—not immediate proof that repair is broken.

Why does a repair kit not work?

The community wiki describes maximum repair thresholds: a kit only applies when the item's durability is below that kit's limit. Steam players independently report that kits are specific to part or material categories. The available sources therefore support checking item type, whether a weapon component is still assembled, and whether durability is low enough. They do not prove that every failed repair has one of those causes.

Can I repair armour or a backpack the same way?

The sources describe different tools for cloth, leather, armour and blades rather than one universal kit. A backpack or piece of armour must match the category accepted by the kit. We have not verified every item's material tag, so use the current item and kit descriptions instead of assuming from appearance alone.

Do I need a blacksmith?

The reviewed discussions ask about merchant repair but do not establish a current blacksmith repair service. The repeatable player-reported procedure is direct use of a repair item on an unequipped item or component. This page does not claim that a merchant can or cannot repair every item in later builds.

What this page deliberately leaves unverified

  1. Exact repair percentages, charges and kit names may change with the Demo.
  2. A player's statement about the effect of zero durability is not treated as a verified current rule.
  3. We do not claim drop locations, vendor stock or a best repair-kit farming route.
  4. We do not claim that the same process applies unchanged after the full release.
